I found it hard to do peer review in high school because I was scared to leave critiques because I thought I would hurt the person’s feelings. But when I got to college, I became much more comfortable as the semester went on. I have been more confident in my peer review skills. The first time I did peer review I was not confident about leaving critiques, so I didn’t leave many constructive criticisms. But our last peer review was easier and I had the confidence to leave more pointed critiques. I felt like I knew what I should have been looking for by the second and third essay peer review, which made it easier for me to leave more helpful comments. As you can see from comparing my first essay and third essay comments, I am leaving comments that are pointed to specific areas where an idea is not coming through in the third essay. In the first essay I left very broad comments that weren’t that helpful, but the comments for the third essay I was much more specific. For example, I pointed out a spot where I couldn’t see the idea coming through because the sentence didn’t make sense to me in one of the paragraphs.

Offering sharp feedback helped me realize what I needed to work on in my own writing and how I can improve my draft that I am working on. It gave me ideas on how I could expand on my ideas. When I saw good transitions or ways, I could introduce a quote or a new idea I put it into my own writing so I could improve my writing.
