Lamott Response

Lamott Response

I think she is talking more about the process than the product when she talks about the first draft. I say this because she says that when she first sits down to write her draft she just writes the words down so she can filter out her ideas. She often found that he built her ideas off what she wrote in her first draft. When she writes her first two drafts she is not focused on the product but rather the information for her to create her drafts and develop her ideas. She begins by writing to “Just to get it all down on paper because…there may be something in the very last line of the very last paragraph on page six” that can lead her in the direction she wants to go(Lamott 1). Her process makes me think that her first drafts are more about the process. I agree in regards to my own first drafts because my process is similar to hers. When I begin to write I make a list of the points I have in response to the prompt and make my ideas from there. I then make a second list of my ideas and the points I will be using to support them and start to write my first draft off of that. Eventually I work the errors out of my first draft and create my second draft. So, overall she cares more about the process than the product when she writes her first draft.
